The Indian cricket team has won the first match against South Africa in the ICC World Cup.

Having won the toss, South Africa opted to bat first. Indian pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah took two wickets in the first ten overs. Then the spin duo, Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav destroyed South African middle order. Chahal took four wickets while Bumrah took two wickets. In the end South Africa were restricted to 227 runs for the loss of nine wickets.

Batting second, Indian did not make a good start as Shikhar Dhawan and captain Virat Kohli were removed for low scores. Rohit Sharma and MS Dhoni steadied the innings. Rohit went on to score his second century in the World Cup and remained unbeaten on 122 runs.

India defeated South Africa with two and half overs to spare and six wickets in hand.
