Generally wherever India’s PM or President go or attend any event, Doordarshan will have to cover and live stream it. But Modi’s presence at IIT Madras was not live streamed and so an employee was sacked.
PM Modi took part in the Singapore-India Hackathon 2019 held at IIT Madras’s research centre in Chennai on September 30. An Assistant Director (AD) of Programme in Chennai failed to telecast live Modi’s speech on DD Podhigai. Under disciplinary action, Vasumathi (AD) was suspended.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Prasar Bharathi, Shashi Shekhar Vempati mentioned in the orders that Vasumanthi was suspended as per the Central Civil Services Rules (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965.
Prasar Bharathi sources say that Vasumathi was given clear instructions to live stream the event especially PM Modi’s speech, yet she did not do and accordingly she was penalized.
On the above mentioned date, PM Modi participated in three events. DD Podhigai streamed two events and the IIT Madras event was only partially covered. PM’s office questioned why the speech of Modi was not streamed and in their probe, Vasumathi was blamed.
