Devi Sri Prasad: I Get Inspired But I Never Copy
Veteran music director, Devi Sri Prasad is one of the most established names in the South Indian musical industry. He has now had a big theatrical release in the form of Pushpa 2 which arrived at the box office on December 5.
Shortly, after the release of the film, Devi Sri Prasad has sat down for a media interview and he spoke at length about the style of work that he incorporates. \
In his interaction with the Media outlet, Devi Sri Prasad noted that he is naturally inspired by good music, but is never reliant on copying other stuff.
“ I am naturally affiliated with good music and get inspired when I listen to something extraordinary. It is a fact that I get inspired to create new and fresh music, but there hasn’t been a single instance in my career where I copied the actual exact music work of others. At the early stages of my career, people used to ask me to create famous English songs, but I clearly turned down their requests by saying that I am here to create new music in not to copy.” Devi said.
Devi Sri Prasad added that it is perfectly alright to grab the opportunities that come your way, but it is never right to go after other music directors work and hijack it. Devi rolled back to the time when he was offered a project with Mahesh Babu, but turned it down later, after realising that the makers had earlier approached some other music director and signed an agreement with him. This was an ethical choice as Devi did not want to be involved with a project that had some other music Director associated with it.
Devi revealed that Mahesh took note of this incident and later appreciated him for standing by his ethics.
Coming to the Kissik song in Pushpa 2, Devi Sri Prasad commented that this word had registered in his mind when Sukumar first narrated him the story, and he wanted to incorporate into the song somehow. Later, when Devi was jamming with this Kissik word, Sukumar picked up on it and wanted Devi to compose the whole song surrounding this word. That’s how Kissik happened and later turned out to be a chartbuster.
