Even as the Narendra Modi government is in a dilemma over holding parliament sessions in the wake of Covid-19 pandemic, the Andhra Pradesh government has decided to go ahead with assembly sessions, irrespective of the pandemic.

The state cabinet which met in Amaravati under the leadership of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday decided that the monsoon session of the assembly will commence from June 16.

It is not exactly known for how many days the monsoon session will run. The Business Advisory Committee will meet on the same day to decide the agenda and the number of days the session has to be run.

For Jagan, the monsoon session is important because it has to pass the regular budget. It was supposed to hold the budget session in March, but it was not held due to lockdown on account of Coronavirus.

As a result, the Jagan government had to go in for promulgation of ordinance to draw funds from consolidated fund for running the government for three months, that is, till June end.

The parliament authorities have advised not to conduct sessions since it is not possible to maintain physical distance in the House.

It remains to be seen how the assembly authorities will make the arrangements in the House in Amaravati.
