AP government not taking action against Ramana’s daughters

The Andhra Pradesh government, in a shocking turn of events, has decided to not take any action against Chief Justice of India, NV Ramana’s daughters, and former state advocate general Dammalapati Srinivas, in the alleged insider trading case that took place in Amaravati. This is a condition though, with the condition being that they are willing to step back if the Supreme Court orders an ACB enquiry into the matter. The representatives of the AP government also said that they were okay with it, even if a retired High Court judge preceded over the investigation. The state’s ACB filed an FIR naming 13 people, including two daughters of Ramana, and Dammalapati Srinivas, on the ground that they purchased land in Amaravati.
Senior counsel Rajeev Dhavan submitted this request to the SC bench consisting of iustices Vineet Saran and Dinesh Maheshwari, on behalf of the AP government. Rajeev Dhavan also said that the SC should refer the case back to the HC, which would then get to dig deep into the case. The SC is currently hearing a special leave petition filed by the Jagan government, on the HC’s order of staying the investigation on the alleged insider trading in Amaravati.
On the other hand, senior advocate Harish Salve, representing Dammalapati Srinivas, said that the SC should itself look into the case completely, and give its due verdict. The SC is now about to give its verdict on whether or not the investigation should be headed over to the ACB, on July 22nd. It is now to be seen what the SC’s verdict will be.
