Time up for senior generation directors in Tollywood?
Tollywood is a largely bustling industry with a huge influx of fresh and appeasing talent. In particular, the new crop of young filmmakers in the industry have been showcasing immense potential. This has essentially meant that the older generation of directors are no longer relevant in the industry.
The likes of Puri Jagannadh and VV Vinayak have already faded out and they are no longer in the picture. At the same time, we have veterans like Rajamouli and Sukumar who are sustaining with their pan Indian presence. Trivikram might also follow this suit sooner or later and the result will decide his prospects.
But for now, the industry is being virtually ruled by the current crop of filmmakers including Sandeep Reddy Vanga, Venky Atluri, Prasanth Varma, and others who have immense potential and are coming with the kind of content that is appeasing the modern day audience. They are the leading directors in the modern day set up as the Telugu folk are also readily lapping them up.
The current generation audience are always looking for something out of the ordinary and they are leaving no stone unturned to encourage fresh and exciting content. Matching this taste is nearly impossible for Puri, Vinayak and others. Only the directors with global touch like Rahamouli and Sukumar are able to keep themselves relevant and that too with extensive hard work.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga has brought in a new change of paradigm in the industry where the audience are readily lapping up a film regardless of the A-rate content and violence. The industry appears to be in search of more X-factor directors like him at this point. Same with Prasanth Varma who is blending creative storytelling with top tier making values.
In the due course, this trend will only get bigger and better as Tollywood prepares to encourage a fresh bunch of promising talent with more and more directors popping up day in day out. This is a positive reinforcement that is perhaps necessitated by the changing tastes and sensibilities of the modern day audience. Only the most talented of the lot can pull the audience to theaters these days.
