In a fresh move to prevent black money hoarders from sending their men to exchange large chunks of old Rs.500 and 1,000 currency notes at banks, the government has decided to stop the over the counter exchange of banned currency notes after midnight of 24th November.

The latest decision is in tandem with the recently introduced move to put an indelible ink mark on the depositor’s fingers to keep a check to those frequenting banks to exchange large amounts of black money.

However, the latest move doesn’t stop those who have the banned currency notes which are white and accounted for from depositing them in the banks until 31st December as announced earlier.

Furthermore, the government also decided to allow payments of school fees up to Rs.2,000 per student in Central, State, Municipality and local body schools through old Rs.500 notes. Also, prepaid mobile top-up recharges up to a limit of Rs.500 per top-up will be permitted through old Rs.500 notes.
