Here comes the twist as 167 passengers of a special train bringing migrants to Haridwar from Gujarat’s Surat has gone missing, causing concern among officials here. The number of passengers who deboarded the train here does not match with the list of passengers received from Surat, Haridwar District Magistrate C Ravishankar said on Thursday.
If these persons were missed after they boarded the train in Surat, it is such a huge matter to shake the entire country. The missed 167 people’s whereabouts is yet to be known. As per the list received from the Surat administration, 1,340 people were traveling by a special train that left Surat on May 12 but when it reached Haridwar station, only 1,173 passengers got down from the train.
While the other passengers on the train were questioned about the missed members, they just shrugged. Some say that they might have jumped from the train in the midway being afraid of quarantine but in that case, some would have known about it in the remaining 1173 passengers. However, the investigation is underway but the entire country is feared with this incident.
The Indian Railways has operated 302 ‘Shramik Special’ trains since May 1 and ferried home more than 3 lakh migrants stranded in various parts of the country amid the corona-induced lockdown.
