Rival Fans to Blame? Kanguva Producer Explodes!

Every storm begins with a thunderclap, but not all storms shake the earth. Kanguva, starring Suriya and directed by Siva, promised to be a cinematic tempest-a visual spectacle tying the past and present with a massive canvas. However, as the dust settles, the film finds itself caught in a whirlwind of mixed reactions and controversies, with co-producer Dhanunjaya’s recent comments adding fuel to the fire.

In a bold statement, Dhanunjaya credited the film’s underwhelming performance to a unique culprit: rival fan groups of two top Kollywood stars. Claiming political allegiances added to this coordinated effort, he mourned, “They don’t want Suriya to rise to the top.” While these remarks have gone viral, igniting debates about the unnamed stars, Suriya’s fans are standing strong, asserting their hero’s dedication and talent deserve better.

Even Jyothika, Suriya’s wife, weighed in on the criticisms, but as a movie lover first. She candidly acknowledged the film’s flaws, particularly the first 30 minutes and the overly loud sound design in certain scenes. Yet, she defended Kanguva’s ambitious scope, reminding critics that minor missteps in experimental films should not overshadow their artistic merits. Supporting this sentiment, Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty explained the challenges of handling sound in a movie of this scale, likening it to “war.”

Despite its struggles, Kanguva shines in moments, with Suriya’s dual portrayal of Kangua and Francis earning praise. The film’s grandeur, Bobby Deol’s menacing villainy, and Disha Patani’s brief but impactful role underline its ambitious vision. As fans and critics continue to debate its legacy, one can’t help but wonder—if this was a storm, was it a drizzle or a downpour? Perhaps Dhanunjaya will say it was both, but only after a cup of chai to calm the winds!
