The presidential election of neighbouring Sri Lanka garnered attention in India as the Indian factors like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and superstars like Salman Khan were involved with it. While incumbent president Mahendra Rajapakse relied on the star power as he invited Bollywood actor Salman Khan and his co-star and Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline Fernandez for the election campaign, opposition leader Mithripala Sirisena wore “Narendra Modi Jacket” and went into public.

The election outcome is in favour of “Modi Jacket” and against to Salman Khan’s campaign. Lankan people gave clear mandate for Sirisena and against to Rajapaksa whose years in office were allegedly marked by “corruption” and “nepotism”.

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Sirisena over phone. Modi wrote on Twitter, “I spoke to Shri Maithripala Sirisena & congratulated him. I congratulate the people of Sri Lanka on the peaceful & democratic poll process. As a close friend & neighbour, reaffirmed India’s continued solidarity & support for Sri Lanka’s peace, development & prosperity.”
